EXPLORE INNER SEAS

Prairie Sea Kayak Adventures offer a unique experiential and emotive connection with nature, set in the heart of the Interlake. Our tours build appreciation for the diversity of species so often missed when we move more quickly.

PSKA is dedicated to providing paddlers, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned vet, opportunities to enjoy guided kayaking in the company of others in safe settings.  You will be provided kayaking instruction, all the required equipment, nature interpretation, and time to explore as you glide above the water’s surface, allowing you to get close to nature.

On specific days, outlined in the calendar, we provide a variety of special experiences as part of our kayaking tours, including paddling in a variety of settings within Manitoba..  Alongside the paddling experience, some tours offer secondary experiences such as celestial viewings, yoga, historical excursions, and hiking.  These packages provide fun and exciting ways to freely explore the rich spirit of nature.

We need the tonic of wilderness. We can never have enough of nature.
Henry David Thoreau

About the Area

Willow Creek is the terminus for a 1200 square kilometer watershed as it flows into Lake Winnipeg.

Wetlands have often been described as the kidneys of the landscape because of the role they play in water and chemical cycles. Wetlands filter out sediment and pollution from the surrounding environment so that the water they discharge is cleaner that which entered the wetland. In this manner, wetlands act as both a sink and source, storing and passing on vital resources to their local environment.

The Willow Creek is home to the tall grass and prairie marsh ecosystem that supports a wide variety of amphibians, birds, invertebrates, mammals, reptiles, and fish.  Over a hundred species of plants adorn the Creek as well.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

We have some special tours coming up! Check out the 2026 calendar.

Some days it isn’t about planning, or luck, or knowledge, or skill. At times it’s just about being outside and waiting for oneself to be surprised as you paddle around the next bend. Today was one of those days when in the quiet, we were treated to some magnificent views. We are fortunate to be able to have these moments. Looking forward to seeing you on the water! ... If you can find three days in August to join us for the Little Limestone Lake Kayak Tour, it will be something worth cherishing for years to come. LLL, the largest marl lake in the world with its unique color-changing properties, transitioning from a deep blue to a vibrant turquoise as the temperature changes. While the July trip is full, there is still space on the August trip for a few adventurous folks. We overnight at a nearby lodge, share meals together, carouse a little, paddle extensively, and make memories along the way. You can direct message Rob on Instagram or email to prairieseakayak@gmail.com

  • Little Limestone Lake is the largest marl lake in the world. Spending time in its clear turquoise waters is truly awe inspiring.

This trip is offered twice this year: July 17-19 and September 11-13.

This is a multi-day tour that includes three separate kayaking excursions (approximately 10 hours in total) to explore northern Manitoba on both Little Limestone and Footprint Lakes. Little Limestone Lake is known for its turquoise waters, smooth pebbled shores, and its ability to change colour at different periods of the day. This amazing lake, due to its distance from major centres, is a relatively untouched paradise. Participants of this tour will meet on the afternoon of the first day to embark on a Little Limestone Lake afternoon or evening paddle, retire to a nearby lodge for some nighttime relaxation, and then return the next morning to set out for a day tour to explore deeper into the lake. On the third day, participants will explore Cedar Lake or Footprint Lake, a beautiful water body nearby our accommodations north of Grand Rapids, MB. Times and exact locations for each excursion will be weather dependent. We will welcome what nature brings us.

Note: Little Limestone Lake is 5 hours north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lodging will be at Moak Lodge near Grand Rapids, MB, about 40 minutes way from Little Limestone Lake.

Accommodations will offer shared cabin spaces. Participants provide their own meals and can prepare them in the shared kitchen.

Previous lake kayaking experience is required. These are large lakes that can challenge even experienced paddlers when the weather turns. But it is so worth it!
  • The Pinawa Dam Tour begins at ‘The Channel’ that once fed the Old Pinawa Dam downstream. We will paddle by granite bluffs and also encounter wetland surroundings as we meander our way down to the dam. Enjoy the 11 km paddle featuring diverse flora and fauna along the river including a wide variety of birds as well as painted and snapping turtles.

Previous paddling experience is required due to the tour length and the class two rapids along the way. This tour offers river and lake travel which leads us toward the old Pinawa Dam which we will explore after stopping for lunch. Paddling through intermittent rapids is a different challenge and this tour offers a good introduction to paddling in moving water. Instruction will be provided prior to the tour. Allow for 6 hours. Helmets provided.

This is a one way tour. Participants will be transported back to their vehicles after we’ve explored the dam.

See you on the water!
  • With Joel Fridfinnson, a local Icelandic historian, along for the ride, paddling along the Icelandic River feels like we are stepping back into the 1870s as we paddle past sites with historical significance along the way. The Icelandic River is full of miraculous and sobering stories that make the River come alive as we paddle along on our way to the town of Riverton, Manitoba.

This three hour tour is ideal for the history buff or for those want to better understand the pioneering history of this area. Paddle in close to our historian as he regales us with haunting tales of a simpler yet difficult time. Take in the charming and natural surrounds contained along the river.

Paddling instruction is provided. Ideal for participants of all kayaking experience levels.

This tour takes twice this year: June 27th and July 11th.
  • The rugged beauty and compelling history of the Lake Winnipeg Narrows will be on full display during the Matheson Island Kayak Tour, located 2.5 hours north of Winnipeg. The incredibly scenic area is full of historical and geological significance which we will explore first hand. Depending on weather conditions, the exact tour details will vary, including a day paddle from Matheson Island to Black Bear Island, exploration of the fine sand beaches of the west side of Matheson Island, and/or a paddle into Jackpine Bay to the Pine Dock caves to explore on foot…and a chance to board one of the few operating cable ferries in Manitoba. Allow for 6 hours.

Given that we will be paddling on the open lake, previous paddling experience is required.

Little Limestone Lake is the largest marl lake in the world.

The Pinawa Dam Tour begins at ‘The Channel’ that once fed the Old Pinawa Dam downstream.

With Joel Fridfinnson, a local Icelandic historian, along for the ride, paddling along the Icelandic River feels like we are stepping back into the 1870s as we paddle past sites with historical significance along the way.

The rugged beauty and compelling history of the Lake Winnipeg Narrows will be on full display during the Matheson Island Kayak Tour, located 2.5 hours north of Winnipeg.
